• Deutsche Schulbibliotheken führen seit jeher ein Schattendasein: Zwar wird der Sinn von Schulbibliotheken hierzulande nicht in Frage gestellt, aber denkbar schlechte Rahmenbedingungen haben dazu geführt, dass sich anstelle eines leistungsfähigen und flächendeckenden Schulbibliothekssystems eine regional sehr unterschiedlich entwickelte Schulbibliothekslandschaft herausgebildet hat. Wurde Deutschland bislang stets als schulbibliothekarisches Entwicklungsland bezeichnet, wird heute als eine Folge der ersten PISA-Ergebnisse und der Einführungen von Ganztagsschulen ein Boom dieser Einrichtungen konstatiert. Tatsächlich jedoch gibt es kaum Zahlenmaterial und Untersuchungen, die diese Entwicklungen und den Ausbauzustand von Schulbibliotheken belegen. Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit wird durch eine schriftliche Befragung ein regionaler Teilausschnitt der Schulbibliothekslandschaft untersucht, um Rückschlusse auf die Situation der Schulbibliotheken an den Gymnasien im Regierungsbezirk Arnsberg ziehen zu können.
• German school libraries have led a shadowy existence all along: Actually, their purpose is never put into question in this country. But poor general conditions have caused the development of a regionally diverse landscape of school libraries instead of a capable comprehensive system. So far, Germany was commonly labeled a developing country regarding its school libraries, but today, following the first results of the PISA survey and the implementation of all-day schools, some state that these institutions undergo an upturn. As a matter of fact, there is hardly any statistical data or research to confirm such a positive development and evidence the status of German school libraries. Within this thesis, a regional section of the school library landscape is analyzed and data generated by means of a self-administered questionnaire is interpreted to draw conclusions about the situation of grammar school libraries in the administrative district of Arnsberg.
