Rollenspiele in Bibliotheken.

  • For several years, public libraries have been shifting from a former focus on collections to a focus on services. One aspect of this reorientation is the range of events offered by a public library. This thesis deals with the conception and implementation of a tabletop role-playing event in a public library. Tabletop role-playing games have existed since the early 1970s and are a mixture of board games and improvisational theatre. In order to design such an event, tabletop role-playing games were first placed in the constructivist-didactic context and then transferred to the "Four spaces of the public library" model. Thereupon, the event was designed taking these and other elements into account, as well as successfully conducted. The evaluation of the event and the feedback of the participants show that tabletop role-playing events are an ideal extension of the event program of a public library, but that the potential is only used by a few institutions in Germany at the time of this thesis.
