  • There are a variety of sporting activities. Many choose the traditional gym, a boxing studio, or a subscription to the local swimming pool. But if interests are mixed and people don't limit themselves to just one type of sport, there is no other option bu t to buy expensive day passes. A Berlin start up has made it its business to offer several different sports at a fixed price and acts as an aggregator. Urban Sport Club is the name of the construct and represents a sports flat rate, through which a variety of sports opportunities in Germany and in various European countries can be exercised. A subscription is concluded with the flat rate provider and the user can take advantage of a certain number of sports activities per month. In recent years, the flat ra te provider has been able to establish a monopoly position on the fitness market. Now, some sports facility operators fear becoming dependent on the flat rate provider, as the latter can regulate the prices paid to the respective sports facility per check in. Is this concern justified and what power does Urban Sports Club have in the fitness market? In addition, an overview of the fitness industry in Europe and in Germany during the corona pandemic is provided and what impact it has on the fitness market.
