  • Borromäusverein is the premier association for Roman Catholic organized public libraries in Germany. Since 2009 the learning platform Metacoon has been used for training issues. This article presents the results of a project undertaken as part of the MALIS study programme. It focuses on the suitability of Metacoon as a tool for collaborative working and communication in diocesan public library offices and full-time libraries. Pivotal targets are the professional exchange of concepts and working materials as well as the joint development of projects and campaigns. Further development and eventual upgrading of the Metacoon platform will be a positive approach to dealing with increased work load and decreasing personnel resources. Reacting to the changing information society and its specific needs it is important to be able to present all resources fast, permanently and transparently. The requirements of potential users were identified in a survey; its results serve as the basis for a concept including steps leading to the implementation of initial features.
