• Die Digitalisierung analoger Medien nimmt als Fachaufgabe für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken eine immer wichtigere Stellung ein und eröffnet diesen neue Perspektiven. Die Überführung von analogem in digitales Material verbessert die Sichtbarkeit der Bestände und der Institutionen, unterstützt die Bestandserhaltung und die langfristige Verfügbarkeit von Informationsträgern, fördert die Forschung zu Sammlungsschwerpunkten, gewährleistet die Barrierefreiheit und vieles mehr. Gleichzeitig bedeutet dies alles für die Institutionen einen erhöhten Verwaltungs-, Organisations- Finanzierungs- und Personalaufwand. Es zeigt sich, dass die digitale Umwandlung analoger Informationsträgern ein sehr komplexes, aufwendiges und ressourcenintensives Verfahren ist, das viele Herausforderungen mit sich bringt. Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht Ursachen für Herausforderungen oder Fehler im Digitalisierungsprozess in Theorie und Praxis aufzuzeigen. Dafür wurden eine literaturbasierte Informationsgewinnung und eine anonyme Online-Befragung durchgeführt. Es konnten Verbindungen zwischen Herausforderungen in der Theorie und Antworten aus der Praxis hergestellt werden. Die Ergebnisse der Umfrage bestätigen unter anderem objektbedingte, organisatorische, technische und personelle Herausforderungen bei der Digitalisierung analoger Medien. Es zeigte sich, dass der komplexe Digitalisierungsprozess jede wissenschaftlich Bibliothek vor ein individuelles Setting von Herausforderungen stellt und der langfristige Erfolg der Digitalisierungsbemühungen unter anderem von einem verbesserten Austausch der Institutionen untereinander abhängig ist.
• The digitization of analog media is taking on an increasingly important position as a specialized task for research libraries and is opening up new perspectives for them. The transfer of analog to digital material improves the visibility of the collections and the institutions, supports the preservation and long-term availabilty of information carriers, promotes research on collection focal points, ensures accessibility, and much more. At the same time, all of this means increased administrative, organizational, funding, and staffing costs for institutions. It turns out that the digital transformation of analog information carriers is a very complex, costly, and resource-intensive process that poses many challenges. This paper attempts to identify causes of challenges or errors in the digitization process in theory and practice. For this purpose, a literaturebased information retrieval and an anonymous online survey were conducted. Connections could be made between challenges in theory and answers from practice. The results of the survey confirmed, among other things, object-related, organizational, technical and personnel challenges in the digitization of analog media. It became apparent that the complex digitization process presents each research library with an individual setting of challenges, and that the long-term success of digitization efforts depends, among other things, on improved exchange among institutions.
