  • Due to the ever-increasing emergence of the Library of Things in recent years, the offer of instrument lending at public music libraries is constantly spreading. This will also give people from the lower social classes easier access to musical instruments. In addition to the public music libraries, music schools also have loan instruments. This bachelor thesis examines the question of how the two institutions differ from the offer and conditions with regard to instrument lending. A special aspect is placed on customer orientation. In addition, three hypotheses are tested. Various research methods are used to investigate the situation of instrument lending. In the group of public music libraries, a quantitative content analysis is used, in which data is collected on the basis of the websites as well as a personal survey. On the part of the music schools, information is collected means of a quantitative online survey using a questionnaire. The investigations finally come to the conclusion that the offer and conditions, especially with regard to the points of inventory, costs, maximum loan period or liability, differ significantly between the two institutions.
